How to use Aadhaar password
Aadhaar password is a unique combination of 8 characters, which is required to open an e-Aadhaar PDF file. The password consists of the first four letters of the name in capital letters, followed by the year of birth in YYYY format.
Combination of the first 4 letters of name in CAPITAL and the year of birth (YYYY) as password.
For Example:

To open the e-Aadhaar PDF file, you need to follow the below steps:
- First, download the e-Aadhaar PDF file from the official UIDAI website.
- After downloading the e-Aadhaar PDF file, open it using any PDF viewer software like Adobe Reader.
- Enter the Aadhaar password to open the file.
The e-Aadhaar password is required to ensure the security and confidentiality of the Aadhaar card holder’s personal information.
To download e-Aadhaar, follow the below steps:
- Visit the official UIDAI website – https://uidai.gov.in/
- Click on the “Download Aadhaar” option.
- Enter your Aadhaar number or enrollment ID, full name, pin code, and image captcha.
- Click on “Get One Time Password” and enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number.
- Once the OTP is verified, click on “Download Aadhaar” to download the e-Aadhaar in PDF format.
In case you forget your Aadhaar password, you can retrieve it by following these steps:
- Go to the official UIDAI website – https://uidai.gov.in/
- Click on “Retrieve Lost or Forgotten EID/UID”.
- Select the appropriate option based on whether you want to retrieve your Aadhaar number or enrollment ID.
- Enter your full name, registered email address, and mobile number.
- Click on the “Send OTP” button.
- Enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number.
- Once the OTP is verified, you will receive a message containing the Aadhaar password on your registered mobile number.

How to Apply for Aadhar Card
To apply for an Aadhaar Card, you need to follow the below steps:
- Locate the nearest Aadhaar Enrollment Centre. You can find the nearest Aadhaar enrollment center by visiting the official UIDAI website – https://uidai.gov.in/ or by calling the toll-free number – 1947.
- Visit the Aadhaar Enrollment Centre with your necessary documents such as identity proof, address proof, and date of birth proof. You can find the list of accepted documents on the UIDAI website.
- Collect an Aadhaar enrolment form from the Aadhaar enrolment centre, or you can also download it from the UIDAI website.
- Fill in the Aadhaar enrolment form with accurate details such as your name, address, date of birth, mobile number, etc.
- Submit the Aadhaar enrolment form along with the required documents to the Aadhaar enrolment operator.
- The operator will verify your documents and take your biometric information such as fingerprints, iris scan, and photograph.
- After the completion of the enrolment process, you will receive an acknowledgment slip containing the enrolment ID.
- You can use the enrolment ID to check the status of your Aadhaar application on the UIDAI website.
- Once your Aadhaar card is ready, it will be dispatched to your registered address.
The process of applying for an Aadhaar card is free of cost. However, if you need a reprint or correction in the Aadhaar card, then you may have to pay a nominal fee. It is important to keep your Aadhaar card details safe and secure as it contains sensitive personal information.
Change Photo in Aadhaar card
To change the photo in your Aadhaar card, you need to follow the below steps:
- Visit the official UIDAI website – https://uidai.gov.in/
- Click on the “Update Aadhaar Details (Online)” option.
- On the next page, click on the “Update Demographics Data Online” option.
- Enter your Aadhaar number and security code, and click on the “Send OTP” button.
- Enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number and click on the “Login” button.
- On the next page, select the “Update your Photo” option.
- Upload the new photograph that you want to update in your Aadhaar card.
- Preview the photograph and click on the “Submit” button.
- You will receive an acknowledgement receipt with a URN (Update Request Number) that you can use to track the status of your photo update request.
- After the update request is processed, the updated Aadhaar card with the new photograph will be dispatched to your registered address.
Please note that to update your photograph in the Aadhaar card, you need to upload a photograph that meets the specified criteria, such as the photograph should be in JPEG format, the file size should be between 10 KB and 200 KB, and the dimensions should be 200 pixels (width) x 230 pixels (height).
